gynandromorph - Abnormal organism of mixed sex; some of tissues are genetically and structurally female, others genetically and structurally male. Can occur, e.g. through disturbance of genetic sex-determination mechanism during embryonic cleavage, as by loss of an X-chromosome in one blastomere and consequently in all its descendants. One half of such an organism can be male, one half female. Well-known in insects; occurs also in birds and mammals. Compare with: Intersex.
