metabolite

Значение термина metabolite в knolik

metabolite - metabolite
metabolite - Substance which takes part in a process of metabolism. Most metabolites are made by the organism in the course of metabolism; others must be taken in from the environment, the organism being unable to make them itself; in still other cases part of the supply of a particular metabolite may be made by the organism, part taken in. Autotrophic organisms need to take in only inorganic metabolites, e.g. water, carbon dioxide, nitrates, and a number of trace elements from the environment. Heterotrophic organisms need, as well as inorganic metabolites, a wide range of organic metabolites from the environment, varying much from species to species, but including certain ammo-acids and vitamins.
