wolffian duct - wolffian duct;
wolffian duct - Vertebrate kidney duct, one on each side. Formed in embryo of all vertebrates from region of pronephros; and subsequently taken over by mesonephros, becoming its duct. In adult anamniotes is usually the kidney duct, and testis also discharges sperm through it. In adult amniotes, where functional kidney (metanephros) has separate duct, it persists only in male, for discharge of sperm, and forms epididymis and vas deferens.
