adjutant, bird - Indian stork of the genus which includes the marabou stork of Africa. It is a large bird, standing nearly 5 ft. high, and the extended wings often measure 15 ft. from tip to tip. Its bald head and the pouch hanging on its breast give it a somewhat repulsive appearance. It is useful in India by reason of its scavenging habits.
