aetius - Aetius (d. a.d. 454)
aetius - Roman general under Valentinian III, Roman emperor of the west. He defended the frontiers of the Empire for nearly 20 years, and in 451 defeated Attila near Chalons. His son was betrothed to Valentinian's daughter, but in 454 the emperor, suspecting that Aetius had designs upon the throne, killed him.
