agoraphobia - Psychological condition in which the individual manifests uncontrollable fear of open spaces, being, in severe cases, afraid to go alone into the street or to cross squares, fields, or parks. It is considered to be due to a complex of the unconscious mind and can be treated by psychological methods. It is the opposite of claustrophobia (q.v.).
