aggershus - Amt or county of S.E. Norway, between Sweden and Oslo Fiord. It has several lakes, and an area of 2,064 sq. m. Oslo is the capital. Pop. 236,939. The fortress of Aggershus stands at the head of Oslo Fiord, on a headland dividing the harbour of Oslo into two parts. Erected in the 13th century, it was a royal residence down to the 18th century, then became a prison and arsenal.
