artiodactyla - Even-toed ungulates. Order of mammals containing pigs, hippopotami, camels, and ruminants (deer, giraffes, sheep, goats, antelopes, oxen). Walk on their toes, on which there are hooves, and are characterized by fact that weight-bearing axis of the foot lies between third and fourth toe. The number of toes may be four (pigs, hippopotami) or more usually two the typical cloven hoof. One of the two great groups of hoofed mammals (ungulates), the other being the Perissodactyla.
