In many vertebrates (e.g. chamaeleon, frog) and Crustacea, rapidly changing disposition (concentration or dispersion) of the pigment granules within the cell, alters colour of animal. (3) In procaryotic organisms (bacteria and blue-green algae), membrane-bounded vesicles (thylakoids) bearing photosynthetic pigments.
