cyanophyta

Значение термина cyanophyta в knolik

cyanophyta - cyanophyta (MYXOPHYTA)
cyanophyta - Blue-green algae. Division comprising primitive algae with procaryotic cell structure. In addition to chlorophyll a, possess /J-carotene, xanthophylls and phycocyanin (blue) and phycoerythrin (red) pigments. Due to different proportions of pigments species differ in colour - black, purple, red, yellow, green, blue. Reserve foods are a form of starch (amylopectin), and protein. Cell wall contains cellulose and pectin (often forming a gelatinous sheath).

Microscopic, unicellular or forming colonies; or multicellular, filamentous. Asexual reproduction by cell division, non-motile spores, or fragmentation. Flagella entirely absent, but some filamentous forms exhibit gliding movement. Thought to be without sexual reproduction but recent demonstration of genetic recombination in one species indicates existence of some form of sexuality. Related to bacteria in procaryotic cell organization but thought to represent distinct evolutionary line.

Widely distributed wherever water occurs. Marine and in freshwater, often planktonic; in hot springs, cold arctic water; in soil, on damp mud; some are symbionts, e.g. with fungi in lichens. Some blue-green algae produce animal toxins, others fix atmospheric nitrogen and play an important part in maintaining soil fertility, e.g. in rice paddies.
