Значение термина dominant в knolik

dominant - dominant
dominant - (1) (Genetics). A gene which produces the same character when it is present in single dose along with a specified allele (heterozygous), as it does in double dose (homozygous), is said to be dominant to that allele. The allele which is ineffective in the heterozygote is said to be recessive to that dominant. When a gene is called dominant without qualification it is usually implied that it is dominant to the normally occurring ('wild-type') allele(s). A dominance-recessiveness relation is common between two genes (the gene most frequently present at a given locus in a wild population is usually dominant to its alleles), but it is not universal. (2) (Plant Ecology). Of a plant species, the most characteristic species in a particular plant community, to a large extent governing the type and abundance of other species in the community, e.g. beech trees in a beechwood. When more than one dominant species occurs in a particular plant community, they are called Codomin-ants. (3) (Animal behaviour). Of a member of a group of animals, able habitually to win aggressive encounters with certain other members of the group.
