gibberellins

Значение термина gibberellins в knolik

gibberellins - gibberellins
gibberellins - Class of plant hormones having spectacular effect in promoting stem elongation of certain plants (e.g. causes dwarf peas to grow to same height as tall varieties). Involved also in other processes of plant growth and development including some responses to light and temperature, dormancy, sex expression, flowering and fruit formation. Originally isolated from Ascomycete fungus Gibberella fujikuroi that causes abnormal elongation of infected host (rice) plants. Occurs in some other fungi and bacteria. Widely distributed in plants where major sites of concentration and, presumably, of synthesis, are regions of rapid development, e.g. apical buds, young leaves, root tips, developing seeds. Move through plant in both xylem and phloem.
