glomerulus - Of vertebrate kidney; small bunch of capillaries, covered by thin epithelium, which projects into Bowman's capsule. Capillaries are supplied with blood by an arteriole, and in birds and mammals discharge into another (efferent arteriole) which in turn supplies capillaries of uriniferous tubule. Much of the dissolved substances, and much of the water, of blood flowing through glomerulus filters into capsule and passes down tubule (where most is reabsorbed into bloodstream again). Plasma proteins and blood corpuscles do not filter into capsule.
