introgressive hybridization - Infiltration of genes of one species into genotype of another. When two species come into contact under conditions favouring one or the other, if hybrids are produced they tend to back cross with the favoured (more abundant) species. This process, continually repeated, results in a population of individuals most of which resemble the predominant parent but which possess also some characters of the other parent.
