pasteurization - Method of partial sterilization named after famous pioneer of microbiology, Louis Pasteur, who found that heating at temperature well below boiling point destroyed bacteria causing wine spoilage without affecting its flavour. Now widely used to kill some disease-causing bacteria in food. Best known example is pasteurization of milk (heating for 30 minutes at 62° C.) which kills tubercle and other harmful bacteria.
