ureotelig - Excreting urea as main break-down product of am-ino-acids; ammonia from the latter (See also: Deamination) being converted to urea by ornithine cycle. Characteristic of those vertebrates during whose embryonic development excretory products can freely diffuse away in this soluble form, i.e. those with aquatic or near-aquatic development (fish, Amphibia, Chelonia) and fully viviparous forms (mammals). Aquatic invertebrates excrete ammonia. Compare with: Uricotelic.
