Viviparity occurs in all placental mammals, and sporadically in other groups of animals. Compare with: Ovoviviparous, Oviparous. (Bot.). Having seeds which germinate within the fruit, e.g. mangrove; or producing shoots for vegetative reproduction instead of an inflorescence, as in some grasses.
