abbott, edwin abbott - Abbott, edwin abbott (1838-1926); abbott, edwin abbott - British scholar and schoolmaster. Educated at the City or London School and St. John's College, Cambridge, Abbott was senior classic in 1861 and afterwards fellow of his college. Having been ordained, lie became a schoolmaster, and during was head master of his old school. He wrote sermons, works on divinity text-books for schools, and a Shakespearean Gram mar, probably his most popular work. Made a fellow of the British Academy, 1913, he died Oct. 12, 1926.
