acoma - Acoma;
acoma - Indian village in New Mexico, U.S.A. It is 80 m. W.S.W. of Albuquerque, and is supposed to be the oldest continuously inhabited place in the States. The Spaniards visited it in 1540, and later ravaged it, and about 1630 the Franciscans established a mission here. It stands on a sandstone rock or mesa, at an alt. of 250 ft. above the floor' of the canon, which is here 6,040 ft. above sea level, and is approached by a winding stairway. Around it is an Indian reservation of nearly 100,000 acres.
