adam of bremen - Adam of Bremen (c. 1045-75);
adam of bremen - German historian. Born in Saxony about 1045, he was a canon and teacher at Bremen from 1069 till his death, Oct. 12, 1075. His fame is based on his Historia Harnmenburgiensis Ecclesiae, or Gesta Pontificum Hammenburg-iensium, a history of the see of Hamburg from 764 to the death of Archbishop Adalbert in 1072. Besides containing records of ecclesiastical affairs, the work gives the earliest accounts of the Wends and of other Slavonic tribes, from knowledge gathered by the author during a visit to the Danish court.
