adamson, william - British politician. He began life as a miner in Fife and for 27 years worked in the pits. In 1902 he became assistant secretary of one of the unions of Scottish miners, and in 1908 its general secretary. He was M.P. for W. Fife from 1910 (Dec.) to 1931. In 1917 he was chosen chairman of the Parliamentary Labour Party, and in 1918 was. made a member of the Privy Council. He was secretary for Scotland in two Labour administrations, those of 1924 and 1929-31. He died Feb. 23, 1936.
