adeler, max - American humorist, whose real name was Charles Heber Clark. Born in Berlin, Maryland, July 11. 1841, he was the son of a clergyman. He is famous as the author of Out of the Hurly Burly (1874), the boisterous humour of which made him popular with young people in America and Great Britain. Elbow-Room and Random Shots are among other works which testify to his command of high spirits and rollicking fun. He died Aug. 10, 1915.
