adiaphora - Term formerly applied by the Stoics to things on the borderland between good and evil. It became the pivot of a bitter controversy in Kith century Germany, when Charles V, by the Augsburg Interim, 1548, sought to effect a compromise between Protestants and Roman Catholics. The latter refused to regard any of the tenets of their Church as among adiaphora.
