aemilian way, the - Highway in ancient Italy. Made in 187 b.c. as a continuation of the Flaminian Wayby the consul Marcus Aemilius Lepidus, after whom it was named, it ran across the northern flanks of the Apennines from Ariminum (Rimini) to Placentia (Piacenza) and Mediolanum (Milan), a distance of more than 180 m. Continued later to Aquileia, parts of it are still used. It gave its name to the province of Emilia.
