aiken, frank - Aiken, frank (b. 1898);
aiken, frank - Irish politician. Active as early as 1914 in the Irish Volunteers, he commanded the northern division of the I.R.A. durins the "troubles" of 1921, and from 1923 to 1925 was I.R.A. chief of staff. He played a part in the negotiations resulting in the establishment of the Free State in 1922, and later held various offices in de Valera cabinets. In 1943 he was minister for coordination of defensive measures.
