aguilar, grace - English authoress. Daughter of a Jewish merchant, she was born in London June 2, 1816, and lived mostly in Devon. She wrote in defence of the Jewish faith, but is chiefly noted for her novels, e.g. Home Influence, 1847, and The Vale of Cedars, 1850. These dealt sentimentally with domestic life, reflecting a strongly religious temperament. She died while visiting Frankfurt, Sept. 16, 1847. Pron. A-ghee'-lar.
