Canal formed by extension of in tegument (s) of ovule beyond apex of nucellus; recognizable in mature seed as a minute pore in seed coat through which water enters when seed begins to germinate. (Zool.). Pore in egg-membranes of an ovum, through which sperm reaches and fertilizes the ovum, e.g. in many insects.
