xenia - Changes due to effect of foreign pollen in visible characters of endosperm. Result from influence of gene complement of male nucleus which fuses with primary endosperm nucleus as a prelude to endosperm formation. Classical examples afforded by maize, e.g. when variety with white endosperm is pollinated by one with deep yellow endosperm, endosperm of resulting seeds is pale yellow.
