crossopterygii - Sub-class of Osteichthyes or of Choanichthyes. Almost all freshwater. Bony skeleton; paired fins with a central skeletal axis; cosmoid scales or derivatives of them. Many fossil forms, which include ancestors of land vertebrates, but only one known living genus (Latimeria). Differ from Dipnoi in having normal conical teeth. First appeared in Devonian (about 400 million years ago), and their known fossil record ceases 70 million years ago.
