lamargkism - View that acquired characters are inherited, first systematically propounded by Lamarck (1744-1829). Lamarck however was principally concerned with a supposed evolutionary effect of habits acquired during the life of an animal. The rather different modern theories of the inheritance of responses to environmental influence are hence often called Neo-Larmarckism.
