abu-hammed - Town in the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan. Situated at "the great bend of the Nile, 230 m. by rly. S.E. of Wady Haifa, it was captured Aug. 7, 1897, by the Anglo-Egyptian troops. Before the construction of the rly., caravans started from here across the Nubian Desert to Korosko.
