abulfaraj - Armenian bishop and writer in Arabic and Syriac, surnamed Bar-Hebraeus. Born at Malatia, Armenia, of Jewish descent, he wras distinguished by his knowledge of languages, philosophy, theology, and medicine. Made bishop of Gubas at the age of twenty, he took the name of Gregorius. His best - known writings are a Chronicle of Universal History and a commentary on the Syriac version of the Bible.
