accordion - Portable reed instrument with bellows and button keys. To save weight and space, each key usually sounds two notes with the alternating action of the bellows. A Viennese invention, it dates from 1829. The piano-accordion, with keyboai-d in place of buttons, was introduced in Paris, 1852, and became highly popular in many countries from about 1920.
