After discussing Fontainebleau, in Random Memories and The Lantern Bearers he deals with episodes of his youth and boyhood. Following an essay on Dreams and a characteristic one on Beggars, the collection ends with Pulvis et Umbra and A Christmas Sermon, the former one of the most remarkable of Stevenson's productions and both containing much of his philosophy of life.
