agrippina the elder - Called the Elder, she was a daughter of Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa and Julia, daughter of Augustus. A woman of strong character, she shared the hardships of the campaigns of her husband Germanicus, by whom she was the mother of Caligula and Agrippina, mother of Nero. Her popularity is said to have aroused the jealousy of Tiberius, and she was banished to the island of Pandataria, where she died.
