In war he arranges for the comfort of the commander, and sometimes acts as camp commandant at headquarters, supervising the batmen, drivers, clerks, etc. In Great Britain certain colonels are appointed as aides-de-camp to the King, an honorary distinction in most cases. An aide-de-camp is designated by the letters A.D.C.
